The Latvian Puppet Theatre Album “brūklenes un mellenes” Now Available on Major Streaming Platforms

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Latvian Puppet Theatre (LPT) has released in digital format the music album “brūklenes un mellenes”, created to celebrate the theatre’s 80th anniversary.
The collection — carefully curated from the theatre’s rich musical heritage — was compiled by actress Dace Vītola. In honour of her milestone birthday, the album is now becoming available to listeners worldwide. From 14 February, “brūklenes un mellenes” can be streamed on Spotify, YouTube Music and Apple Music.
In 2025, a sheet music edition of the album was also published under the Musica Baltica label. The selected songs and instrumental themes have been arranged so they can serve as educational material for music schools, as repertoire for ensembles and choirs, or simply for making music for pleasure. Some of the songs are accompanied by instrumental backing tracks in MP3 format, allowing them to be performed either with piano accompaniment or with a track that more closely reflects the original sound of the pieces. The sheet music book in PDF format is available for purchase here.
Dace Vītola — the celebrant, initiator and producer of the album — reflects: “I am convinced that especially in theatre, which is an ephemeral art form, it is extremely important to document things — performances, content, performers, text, music. On the one hand, we are constantly growing; on the other, it becomes a testimony of history. If we do not preserve it, gaps and various interpretations will inevitably appear.”
The album “brūklenes un mellenes” features songs from productions of the past ten years, created by outstanding composers and musicians such as Raimonds Pauls, Edgars Mākens, Uģis Vītiņš, Jēkabs Nīmanis, Silvestrs Zemgals, Sniedze Prauliņa, Gatis Krievāns, Kaspars Niklasons, Mikus Frišfelds and others.
“Brūklenes un mellenes” is the third LPT music album produced by the actress. In 2010, the poetry and songs album of the production “Lellīte Lolīte” was released, followed in 2015 by the theatre’s 70th anniversary collection “34 krāsas dziesmās”. These albums will also be made available on streaming platforms before the end of the season.
On the Latvian Puppet Theatre’s Spotify profile, listeners can already find music collections from several productions, including “Ludvigs un Tuta”, “Kiosks”, “Katliņpauris”, “Gangsteromīte” and “Lidojošo cūku nams”. Follow the Latvian Puppet Theatre on Spotify here.
