Book rooms

Picking up a book and beginning to read is like opening a door and stepping into a little house you have never visited before — looking around, making yourself at home, meeting its inhabitants and discovering their secrets.
The very first room of this little house appears as soon as you open the book’s cover. It is called an endpaper, although everyone at the publishing house simply calls it wallpaper. And naturally, if it is a room, it needs beautiful wallpaper! When creating it, artists give readers a glimpse of the mood inside the house, what the book will be about and who lives there.
Every book published by “Liels un mazs” has different wallpaper in its rooms. Try to guess which wallpaper belongs to which book!
For more than 20 years, “Liels un mazs” has been publishing books for children of all ages. These include works by Latvian authors and translations, picture books and stories, poetry and comics. Quite often, one of these books is transformed into a performance and brought to the stage of the Latvian Puppet Theatre. You can read about Lasis Stasis, Bruņinieks, Oskars, Dilles tante, Olga and Aļģis — and also see their stories performed at the Puppet Theatre!
The exhibition can be visited at the theatre, at 16/18 K. Barona Street, one hour before performances.
