Death in the Shadow
About the performance
History teaches us that every crisis ends once*, but it leaves us with traces that are in our own hands to overcome – it is a struggle. A struggle with yourself for self-recovery, as a result of which a person can become more than he has been or surrender to non-existence.
“Death in the Shadow” is a play about the relationships of people affected by the border-situations, about relationships with the closest, furthest, awaited and lost, and with themselves, about their search for a new existence in self-reflection.
The play, based on a short story by Rūdolfs Blaumanis, was created by the graduates of the Latvian Academy of Culture Puppet Theatre Art Course of 2019, currently the actors of Latvian Puppet Theatre – Elīna Bojarkina, Rihards Zelezņevs and Matīss Millers, under the direction of their coursemate Rūdolfs Apse, who continues his studies in Latvian Academy of Culture Master’s programme in theatre directing. Rudolfs has spent part of his study time in Poland, the state of contemporary puppet theatre, to supplement his knowledge in the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw Branch Campus in Bialystok, while studying puppetry and alternative theatre directing.
